About the Position
The Medical Billing Specialist for Goodwin Living Health (GLH) is responsible for accurate, timely, and compliant billing and collections mainly for Goodwin Rehabilitation but will also support the broader GLH continuum of services, including Home Health, Hospice, Home Care, and other community-based programs.
This role plays a critical part in the financial and operational excellence of Goodwin Living Health by ensuring claims are submitted correctly, payments are posted accurately, denials are resolved efficiently, and accounts receivable are actively managed. The Medical Billing Specialist works closely with clinical, intake, front desk, and operational leaders across service lines to ensure documentation supports billing, payer rules are followed, and revenue is optimized.
Job Duties
- ·Prepare, review, and submit clean, accurate, and timely claims for Goodwin Rehabilitation services, including Medicare Part B, Medicare Advantage, commercial, and private pay.
- ·Process third party billing required for maintaining a timely revenue cycle for Goodwin Living Health.
- ·Ensure all required clinical documentation, authorizations, and orders are present prior to billing.
- ·Submit claims through appropriate clearinghouses and payer portals.
- ·Monitor claim status and promptly address rejections, pends, and denials.
- ·Correct, resubmit, and appeal claims as appropriate.
- ·Post payments, contractual adjustments, and denials accurately and timely.
- ·Reconcile EOBs/ERAs to charges and identify discrepancies, underpayments, or overpayments.
- ·Ensure patient and payer balances are accurate and up to date.
- ·Maintain clean, auditable accounts receivable records across service lines.
- ·Ensures all patients’ medical information and billing data is accurate and up to date
- ·Updates billing software with insurance rate changes.
- ·Serves as a back-up for billing at other communities.
- ·Processes and follows up on collection of patient liability and private billing.
- ·Follows up on missed payments, unpaid claims, and resolve financial discrepancies.
- ·Reviews insurance remittances for accuracy of payment.
- ·Processes and complete month end financials close reports for entities within GLH
- ·Answers billing questions from staff, external third-party payers, patients, and families.
- ·Keeps all business/financial matters in strict confidence and observes HIPAA regulations.
- ·Treats all persons with respect and is a “team player” within department and across the organization.

- ·Provide cross-coverage support to the broader GLH billing team as needed.
- ·Assist with special projects, implementations, or process improvements related to revenue cycle performance.
- ·Perform additional job duties as assigned and directed.
Qualifications
- ·High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or health care highly preferred.
- · 2-5 years of direct billing and reimbursement experience required.
- ·Experience in third party billing and Medicare billing strongly preferred.
- ·Knowledge required of Medicare, MA, HMO, and insurance coverage determinations for Home Health and Hospice, including Medicare secondary payer information.
- ·Basic understanding required of ICD-10 coding concepts and resources.
- ·Must be proficient in medical terminology and abbreviations.
- ·Knowledge of Home Health and Hospice regulations, billing and reimbursement requirements would be a differentiator.
- ·Must have the ability to self-direct in accomplishing the coordination and decision-making responsibilities of this position and be resourceful in problem solving.
- ·Ability to complete work thoroughly and accurately, utilizing approved systems of checks and balances.
- ·Must have intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
