Role Overview
This position collaboratively works with the Goodwin Living (GL) campuses and Gooding Living Health Services (GLHS) for implementation of clinical in-service education programs for all new and existing nursing team members. This role partners with campus and GLHS leadership to develop and implement education and training for all new team members upon hire, assesses the educational needs/competency of existing nursing team members, and provides group and/or individualized education as indicated. In addition, this role serves as an educator to all GL nurse roles, and provides clinical leadership in an interim capacity, and provides patient/ resident care as needed. The Director of Education and Clinical Operations ensures that all nurses understand how to access all types of GL provided care and that all residents, patients, and partner organizations understand the full continuum of services provided by GL.Key Responsibilities
Provides leadership educational to improve resident and patient outcomes through preparation and on-going in-service education of nursing team members.
Collaborates with nursing leadership to plan, prepare and implement new team member orientation for nurses and care partners across the continuum (campuses and GL Health). Provides updates to leadership regarding the performance status of each new team member and shares any concerns. Provides the original check list tool for each individual to each service line designee.
Provides ongoing education based on results of needs assessments and level of competency and in alignment with regulations and standards.
Supports the auditing of compliance by ensuring that each campus and service line maintains required educational records and offers courses that fulfill the requirements for nursing team members. Works with DON or designee and service line designee about scheduled education sessions and attendance concerns.
Plans, coordinates and develops annual Registered Medication Aide re-fresher class for all campuses and service lines. This class is to be offered quarterly, rotating between campuses.
Collaborates with each campus and service line for an annual skills fair for nurses and care partners. Provides guidance and support to ensure a successful learning experience. Provides remediation for individuals when necessary.
Acts as a liaison for all newly hired nurses, maintaining contact with them at least quarterly to address any concerns that may arise.
Provides in-service education for nursing team members related to resident and patient needs, use of new medical equipment, techniques, policies, procedures, forms and other identified needs.
Organizes and provides ongoing interdisciplinary in-service education as it relates to the resident and patient health and wellness.
Participates in developing and maintaining relationships with area Nursing programs and community outreach programs.
Provides clinical supervision to nursing students as indicated in collaboration with campus clinical leadership.
Serves as a liaison with nursing administration and service line leadership in planning seminars, workshops, educational programs and related activities.
Completes audits and clinical field observations as needed, including joint visits in Home Health and Hospice, to ensure quality standards, regulatory compliance, and clinical competency.
Provides direct clinical support and patient care during critical Home Health and Hospice staffing shortages; supports quality improvement, training, competency validation, and serves as interim leadership across Goodwin Living Health and community roles as needed.
Conducts joint home visits with Home Health and Hospice nurses for quality assurance, coaching, and skills development
Leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the annual nursing skills fair across all service lines.
Develops and implements CPR training programs and schedules across Goodwin Living and Goodwin Living Health; demonstrates regulatory expertise and leads or participates in mock surveys to ensure compliance and survey readiness.
Develops, implements, and oversees a preceptor and mentorship program, including training and ongoing support for field preceptors and clinical mentors, to ensure consistent onboarding and staff development.
Provides EMR training and ongoing education to support accurate, timely documentation, including Point Click Care/OASIS/HOPE accuracy, high-quality visit documentation, and compliance with plans of care and regulatory requirements.
Leads education and training initiatives for internal stakeholders and team members focused on care transitions across the continuum (SNF, AL, MC, Home Health, Hospice, and community-based care) to promote continuity, safety, and optimal patient outcomes.
Participates in the Quality Assessment and Process Improvement through identification of areas for improvement as it relates to clinical education and providing the necessary reports and follow through.
Maintains knowledge of current professional issues, standards of practice and regulatory compliance for campuses, home care, home health and hospice.
Supports nursing team member education by providing team members with educational opportunity information.
Manages program resources effectively to meet the educational needs of the nursing team members at all communities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Nursing degree from an accredited college or university. Master’s in nursing education and or experience in SNF, Home Care, and Hospice preferred.
Must possess a nursing license in good standing for the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Must have a minimum of five years of nursing experience in the area of geriatrics / med-surg.
Must have two years’ management experience.
Must possess the ability to set goals and work in a self-directed fashion.
Must possess the ability to deal professionally and effectively with team members, residents and the community at large.
Must have excellent writing, communication, and computer skills.
