Job Summary
Goodwin Hospice aides provide personal care to hospice patients inside all Goodwin Living communities and in the home outside Goodwin Living communities under the supervision of an RN. As members of the interdisciplinary team, hospice aides contribute to the individualized plan of care.
Job Duties
- Assist with personal hygiene, elimination, feeding and mobility according to the patient’s needs and the nursing orders. All care is directed by an RN’s care plan.
- Provide support for and reinforce the team’s teaching to patient caregivers, including appropriate education about end of life symptoms and concerns.
- Communicate with the hospice nurse regarding services provided and significant findings regarding the patient’s functional status and change in care needs.
- Document the care provided and the patient’s response to care.
- Participate with the interdisciplinary team in the development and implementation of the patient’s and family’s plan of care.
- Assist clients in and out of bed, including the use of mechanical lifting equipment, when applicable.
- Assisting clients with walking, including the use of walkers and wheel chairs, when applicable.
- Assist with meal preparation and feeding, as directed by the patient’s plan of care.
- Assist with light housekeeping to including but not limited to making beds, washing dishes, watering plants, dusting empty trash, light vacuuming.
- Measure and record fluid intake and output, if requested in plan of care.
- Take and recording blood pressure, pulse, and respiration, if requested in plan of care.
- Attend annual in-service training, not less than 12 hours annually.
- Aide competencies are assessed annually and PRN. Advance notice is given. Aides must be able to pass their competencies in order to remain employed as a Goodwin House aide.
- Position requires travel between Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads and to patients’ homes in the community. Transportation will not be provided by Goodwin House Incorporated.
Job Requirements
- Must be licensed by the Virginia Department of Health Professions as a Certified Nurse Aide.
- Must have the ability to deal tactfully with others.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English.
- Must be able to document in hospice software.
