About the Position
The Director of Clinical Services oversees and supports all clinical functions across each level of living at Goodwin House Alexandria. This includes leading and empowering the nursing team members to achieve their potential through coaching and collaboration to provide the highest quality of holistic, person-centered clinical care. The Director of Clinical Services also assures regulatory compliance, quality improvement, infection control, and fiscal excellence.
Primary Duties
- Oversees clinical services in residential living, assisted living, the Small Houses/Health Care Center, and the Clinic.
- Acts as Clinical Director for GHA laboratory services as indicated on CLIA waiver.
- Reviews all medical information for pre-admission interviews to expedite decision making related to potential medical questions.
- Oversees an effective infection control program in conjunction with the Infection Preventionist including training and education on Covid-19 responsibilities and other infection control matters. Also interfaces with local Health Department and contracted laboratories.
- Oversees management of vaccination programs across all levels of living (e.g., Influenza, Covid-19, RSV, etc.)
- Reviews and approves Health Care lab work, pharmacy invoices for payment.
- Sends Clinic medication administration charges and UAI Assessment billing to the billing department.
- Serves as clinical liaison with area nursing schools, colleges, and universities to support nursing practicum requirements. Coordinates assigning residents and enhancing experiences and benefits to residents and students.
- Fully understands and upholds Small House standards and philosophy of Creating Home Guiding Principles
- Reviews and assures team member compliance through in-service requirements and programs for self-development.
- Reviews all medical information related to admissions to ensure care needs can be met and plan for a smooth transition.
- Creates and reviews key reports from the Electronic Health Records system.
- Assures clinical paperwork is up to date for surveys.
Leadership
- Leads a positive work environment to foster teaming, collaboration, and success.
- Monitors surveys (e.g., Holloran, WeCare Connect, Energage) and incorporates feedback to improve the department, processes, and quality of care.
- Provides information and tools to assist stakeholders in the decision-making process.
- Places decision making in the hands of stakeholders
- Accepts stakeholder decisions (except if potentially harmful to residents or the organization).
- Leads the clinical team in the creation and successful management of a budget.
Staffing
- Reviews résumés, interviews candidates, and makes hiring decisions to maintain required staffing levels.
- Mentors and facilitates individual growth and development across the clinical team through ongoing feedback and timely performance reviews.
- Addresses performance and behavioral issues effectively and efficiently partnering with HR as needed.
- Ensures adherence to expectations and work rules to foster a positive, safe, respectful work environment for all.
- Provides education, training and mentoring to team members.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program required. Master of Science in Nursing preferred.
- Current licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia or compact state required.
- Previous gerontological nursing leadership required.
- Must have current CPR certification.
- Working knowledge of state and federal nursing home regulations required.
- Must have prior experience leading large clinical teams.
- Knowledge of MDS and nursing systems required.
